Prof. Dermot Kenny

Prof. Dermot Kenny (MD, FACC, FRCPI, DABIM (Cardiovascular Disease)) is Professor of Cardiovascular Biology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland where his primary research area is in understanding the mechanisms of thrombosis to advance clinical diagnostics. His research has been funded by the NIH, American Heart Association, Wellcome Trust, the HRB and Science Foundation Ireland. In 1998 Dermot returned to Dublin from the USA to head up the first academic Clinical Research Centre (CRC) in Ireland at RCSI. The CRC provided, over the subsequent decades, basic support to Principal Investigator’s and researchers undertaking clinical research at RSCI in Beaumont Hospital. This has evolved to provision of other levels of support within RCSI and the wider research networks both locally (Dublin) and nationally. Professor Kenny also maintains an active research role as an Investigator in the Blood Research Institute of the Blood Center of Southeastern Wisconsin. He is adjunct Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Medical College of Wisconsin and Adjunct Professor in the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute in Dublin City University. He has authored over 100 peer reviewed papers.
